Homeless and Food insecurity in College

Which Students are at highest risk of Basic Needs Insecurity?

·         Foster Care Experience: Students with a history of the foster care system are more likely to experience basic needs insecurity

·         Gender Identity: Female students are more likely to experience housing insecurity, male students (40%) vs female students (49%) . Refer to the Report (https://hope4college.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/2019_RealCollege_Survey_Report.pdf).  

·         LGBTQ + Identity : the LGBTQ+ students are more likely t experience basic needs insecurity, around 2/3.

·         Race/Ethnicity: according to the study, 2020 RealCollege, students identified as indigenous, American Indian/Alaskan, Black, Pacific Islander/Native, Hawaiian or Latino are homeless or food insecured. 75% of indigenous students, compared to 54% of white students and 53% Asian/Asian American.
